Zacnite s kletko, v kateri je pet opic. Znotraj kletke naj s stropa na vrvici visi banana, pod njo pa postavite lestev. Hitro bo ena od opic skušala splezati po lestvi proti banani. Vendar takoj, ko se to zgodi, njo in vse ostale opice polijte z mrzlo vodo tako mocno, da banana ostane nedotaknjena.Cez nekaj casa se bo še kaka opica skušala na enak nacin dokopati do banana ampak z enakim rezultatom, ker boste opice ponovno obilno namocili v mrzli vodi. Kmalu bodo opice, cim se bo kaka od njih hotela lotiti banane, popadle po njej in ji to preprecile. Takrat lahko ukinete polivanje z mrzlo vodo.Sedaj pa vzemite eno od opic iz kletke in jo nadomestite z novo. Ta se bo seveda spet hotela lotiti banane, a jo bodo ostale napadle in ji to zaradi preteklih izkušenj - preprecile. Po še nekaj poskusih se bo naucila, da bo napadena vsakokrat, ko se bo skušala po lestvi približati banani.Ponovno zamenjajte eno od starih opic z novo. Ta se spet poskuša povzpeti po lestvi, a jo ostale napadejo. Tudi prejšnja nova opica se z navdušenjem pridruži njenemu kaznovanju. Na ta nacin postopno zamenjajte vse stare opice z novimi. Vsaka od njih bo dobila batine, ko se bo skušala približati banani. Vecina od opic sploh ne bo imela pojma, zakaj ni dovoljeno vzpenjanje po lestvi in zakaj sodelujejo v pretepu.Ko ste zamenjali vso "staro garnituro", nobena od navzocih opic nima izkušnje z mrzlo vodo in vendar si niti ena ne drzne splezati po lestvi do banane. Zakaj? Ker - kolikor one vedo - se to od nekdaj ne sme.In tako nastajajo religije, pravila lepega vedenja, red v podjetjih, politika, vecne resnice...

On Sunday my hubby and I went to the U2 concert held in Zagreb, capital of neighboring Croatia. We took a special train that was organized for the fans and which took us in less than 3 hours to Zagreb. The concert was on the city stadium, with more than 60,000 people attending it. I never attended such a big concert, and the feeling was really great. They played for over 2 hours, all together 22 songs – a mix of new and old ones. I also liked very much the band Snow Patrol, which played before U2 (especially their If I Lay Here, which I was listening for months…).

It was soooo amazing.

I was away for a while, but now I'm back on my blog :)

For the last few months, I had a lot of work. I was finishing my studies, beside having a full time job. So I didn't have time at all. However, yesterday I had my last two exams...and now I am done with my study :)

So today I went to the old town (for the first time this summer)... and I was sitting in a cafe, reading book and enjoying.

Now I will have more time for my hobbies, and also for my blog :)

Pokljuka is a foresty plateau in the Slovenian Alps at the altitude of around 1300 metres (ca. 4300 ft), situated partly in the municipality of Bled and partly in municipality of Bohinj in northwestern Slovenia. It is part of the Triglav national park. The plateau is known for its winter sports facilities, among which are the yearly Biathlon World Cup meets held at Biathloncenter Pokljuka.

It is really a plenty of snow up there - over 2 meters (ca. 6.5 feet). I heard that in our mountains already for 30 years there was not so much snow. One ski center, that lies on the altitude over 2000 (6500 ft) meters, had even over 8 meters (26 ft) of snow...However, it was sunny and really warm, so we could wear just a pullover, and enjoy the (almost) spring sun.

Today I was watching the inauguration of the new US President Barack Obama. He really has a charisma, and his speech was impressive. I'm actually better off as the Americans are, because the inauguration was at 6 p.m. our time, so I could lie on the couch and watch it. We will see about the future. He will definitely not be able to solve all the problems as some people believe. However, I wish him good luck in his new job :)

Bad Kleinkirchheim

Sun, snow and spa – all that we enjoyed in Bad Kleinkirchheim in Austria on our winter vacation, and we had a marvelous time. We were staying in a small family hotel Sonnenheim. The hotel staff was very kind so we felt very good. The owner is also the chef, and the food was very delicious. Room was big and sunny. They also have some saunas but we were only once in there.

We had a few days of really sunny weather and also some snowing during the vacation. So we were skiing and enjoying on the sun. Two days - when the weather was not good - we spent in Spa Römerbad (could be translated as the Roman spa - already the Romans were settled in this area, and enjoying its beauty) where there are 13 saunas in three levels...what a relaxation and enjoyment that was. We were actually happy that the weather was not sunny all the time, so we went into the spa, enjoyed there, and not having a bad feeling that we spent a sunny day inside:))

On the pictures you can see our hotel, inside of the spa (pic is from the web), some of the ski slopes, one of the cable cars, one of the mountain pastures, and our skies.

On the last day there was a thick fog in the valley, and cloudless and warm weather on the mountains - so you can see 'the sea of fog' below.

Last week, after all Christmas and New Year's parties, I just wanted to go out on fresh air... so I went with my hubby on a short trip. He took me to the one of the nearest hills, called Koreno, that has a fantastic view. On the top of the hill there is a church. We had a short walk (not too long, because it was really cold) and I took some pictures.

Koreno is also the name of a small village below the top of the hill. I also took a pic of a village well, which is nicely renovated, but of course no longer in use.

The British queen Elizabeth II is on her first visit in Slovenia. She visited our capital Ljubljana and our must famous stud farm in the village Lipica (home stud of the famous lipizzaner horses).

The pic was taken on her walk through the old town of Ljubljana. On her left side there is our president of Slovenia dr. Danilo Turk and on her right side is mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Jankovic.

My hubby was in the crowd and he saw her, but I was unfortunately at home, because I am still resting.

Her charm and charisma impressed most of the Slovenians.

Hi,

unfortunately I am back from my holidays, and tomorrow I am going back to the office. I spent my holidays in camping on the seaside in Croatia, near the town of Porec, and I would like to share with you a few photos and impressions.

From my home there is actually only a two-hour drive to Porec, so I can also pack a few things on Friday after work, to be there already in the evening, and enjoy until Sunday afternoon -we have a trailer placed in the camping for the whole summer season, so it is easy to jump to the seaside also over the weekend. However, this time I was there for the 'real' - two-week vacation.

The area of Porec is one of the most developed tourist areas in the region. The city itself lies on the small peninsula. It has a long past - it was a city already in the Roman time. Its main site is the early Christian basilica from 6th century, and is protected by UNESCO.

View on the town of Porec from the south - the coast south of the city has many hotels and campings, and nice paths where one can walk for kilometres near the sea. A shot was taken from such a path.

In the medeival town there are many narrow roads and squares. And the place is used well for bars and restaurants.

My favourite bar is placed within the medeival defence tower (from 15th century, I think). One can sit on the top and watch the city harbour.

The stairs to the top are REALLY narrow and steep, and the ceiling is very low...I cannot imagine how you come down if you drink too much :)

There are also tables inside...I took a photo of one. In the back there is a cannon line. fantastic medeival feeling....but of course those tables are usually empty during the summer time...

Every morning ships like this are going to the daily trip to the Lim channel (a short fjord some 10 kilometers to the south). This kind a trip is calling Fish picnic, where fish (and of course, wine), is offered on the board.

This is bar called 'Paradise', on the beach. It also has such cubes in front of it. The drinks are served here as well, so you can have your drink while lying on this cube and watching the sea....really a luxury :)

...or you can lie in the shade of the pine trees and watch the sunny beach....

And that is exactly what we were doing most of the time....lying in deep shadow and enjoying the breeze from the sea. I don't really feel to lie on the hot sun during the day. I was lying on the sun only by some 11am and then again after 5pm. Nevertheless I got quite nice ten, but not burns.

I actually watch every year the tourists, especially from northern part of Europe, coming to the south, eager to enjoy the Mediterranean sun, lying the whole first day on the sun to become terrible burnt, and then healing their burns for the next week....and on the other hand people from nearby areas, whos skin is actually more used to this sun, but are more aware of the dangers of it, and are hiding from it in the shade. So did we.

These are our bicycles, that we used for going around. At the moment they were parked near the palm tree, while we were enjoying in another beach bar (I didn't take a photo of it, unforunatelly). The bar is called Tramontana. It doesn't look that fancy like the Paradise, but it has very nice and friendly staff.

Of course we afforded ourselves a few things....also a massage. You can have it right on the beach.

The toughest sport I had on vacation, was this one....beside one-time badminton game, and - of course- cycling. In the shade in front of the trailer we were enjoying, often spending the hottest time of the day, and also reading exciting books.

Once we had a storm....in two parts...in the evening it came with this black cloud, but it left just a bit of rain. But in the middle of the night another one came with a terrible wind and a heavy thunderstorm. The wind came from the north, and is called 'tramontana' (just like the name of 'our' bar) - it is Italian word, that means 'from the mountains'. It is a heavy wind, that blows directly from the Italian Alps to the Adriatic Sea (that's why it is called like this), and usually blows only for a short time (when the weather front is passing by). But it often causes a lot of damage, and so it did this time (luckily not in our camping). That night was not really pleasant...but in the morning the sunshine was already back...

...and the atmosphere was cleared by the heavy wind, so we could watch the fantastic sunset...the sun went into sea...

Prekmurska gibanica

Prekmurska gibanica is an interesting combination of cake and pastry, and hails originally from the Prekmurje region of Slovenia. It restates a favorite theme in central European baking -- the layered sweet strudel, often with poppy seeds involved (as in this variation) and stuffed with sweet jams, fruit or fruit compotes, nuts, and/or dairy products (in this case cottage cheese).
Some descriptions of Prekmurska gibanica describe it as a pie. This is probably because of the bottom layer, which is sometimes made of shortcrust pastry -- possibly a remnant from the earliest versions of the dish, which were devised before refined sugar was available. Honey would have been the only sweetening in those versions, and a more solid bottom layer (more solid than strudel dough, anyway) might have made sense.

Those versions of Prekmurska gibanica also included dried grapes as one of the main constituents of the filling. The present version, however, uses cottage cheese, poppy seed, walnut and apples, and the dried grapes (in the form of raisins) turn up as part of the cottage cheese filling, having been first soaked in rum. This version of the recipe is well enough known and liked in Slovenia to have been declared one of the fifty national "birthday cakes" for the European Union's 50th birthday celebrations in 2007. It's so popular that it appears on one of the country's stamps!

For the strudel dough:
300 g flour
3 tablespoons lukewarm water
2 tablespoons wine
1 tablespoon sugar.
salt to taste
2 tablespoons oil
2 tablespoons melted butter for brushing dough
(You can also substitute store-bought filo pastry or strudel dough.)

For the fillings:
The poppyseed filling:
400 g poppy seeds, ground with a mortar and pestle or very briefly whizzed in a food processor with the steel blade
200 g sugar
cinnamon to taste
1 cup hot milk

The apple filling:
500 g apples, grated
200 g sugar
cinnamon to taste
1 lemon rind, grated
1 tablespoon lemon juice

The cottage cheese filling:
500 g cottage cheese
3 dl (deciliters) sour cream: about 1 1/2 US cups
1 egg
200 g sugar
2 tablespoons raisins, soaked in rum
vanilla to taste

The walnut filling:
500 g ground walnuts
200 g sugar
cinnamon to taste

Optional topping: 1 cup sour cream

Separately for each filling, mix the ingredients well. Grease well (butter is best) a square or oblong ovenproof baking dish or pan.

For the strudel dough: Mix the ingredients in a bowl, knead thoroughly (ten minutes at least) and let stand to relax for one hour. Then roll out and cut into thin sheets the size of the baking container. (Alternately, purchase large sheets of strudel dough or filo pastry to suit your baking dish.)

Place a layer of strudel dough / filo pastry in the bottom of the baked dish. Brush lightly with melted butter. Spread half the poppy seed filling evenly over it. Cover this layer with another sheet of strudel dough and brush the dough with melted butter. Spread this layer with half the apple filling. Cover with another sheet of dough: brush with melted butter. Spread with half the cottage cheese filling: cover with a sheet of dough, brushing with melted butter. Spread with half the walnut filling: cover with dough and brush dough with melted butter.

Repeat this process with the remaining poppyseed filling, apple filling, cottage cheese filling and walnut filling, making sure to brush each layer of strudel dough with the melted butter as you proceed.

Top with a final layer of strudel dough: brush with melted butter. If you like, spread this last layer with 1 cup sour cream (thinned a little with milk, if necessary, to make it easier to spread).

Bake for about 1 hour in a medium oven (350F / 175C). Cut into squares and serve. (source)

Rich in resources, naturally good looking and persistently peaceful, Slovenia has been doing just fine since its break from the former Yugoslavia in 1991.

The Republic of Slovenia lies at the heart of Europe, where the Alps face the Pannonian plains and the Mediterranean meets the mysterious Karst. To the north borders to Austria; Hungary is to the east; Croatia to the south and Italy to the west.

The country was once part of the Austro-Hungarian empire. The capital, Ljubljana, was founded in Roman times. Its university, with more than 50 000 students, contributes to the city’s busy cultural life. The main industries are car parts, chemicals, electronics, electrical appliances, metal goods, textiles and furniture.

In Slovenia, the sun shines approximately 2,000 hours per year. And there is plenty of snow in winter. The average temperatures are -2°C in January and 21°C in July.

Green is the dominant colour. There are many woods and forests in Slovenia – covering more than half of the country – and numerous preserved and protected plant and animal species. Mountains, lakes, waterfalls, forests, caves, hills, plains, rivers and the sea - you name it, we've got it on the 20.273 km2, as well as many natural and landscape parks.

As a small picturesque country, Slovenia makes a great tourist destination. You can ski in the morning and surrender yourself to the luxury of the Adriatic Sea in the afternoon.

The highest mountain is called Triglav - the name meaning "three-heads" - and it is 2864m high. The mountain is a true national symbol, featured on the national coat of arms and the flag.

The country is also known for its great wines and delicious traditional food.

Hello my bloggers. I am already home, after eight fantastic days spent in the northwestern part of Europe (Belgium, France, The Netherlands). I still owe you some photos and comments from my trip to the Netherlands.

First I visited Amsterdam. It is a very special city with a liberal atmosphere that you can feel it immediately - and also smell it :)

Such kind of atmosphere is hard to find everywhere else. Its traffic is very interesting - you have to be very careful (especially when first time in the city) not to crash with a bicycle or be hit by a tram. There is also a special taxi, that I think exist only in Amsterdam - a bicycle taxi with a place for two passangers (you can see it on a pic below). I called it 'the Amsterdam ricksha'.

The city itself is full of canals, where one can see the typical life of the city. I took a boat trip to experience the life on and near the canals.

The architecture is very interesting - the houses are usually (due to lack of space) very narrow and tall. I spent the evening in a pub near the Dam square to watch the semi-finals of the European football cup. There was a crowd of some twenty Spanish in that pub, so the feeling was really great (and even better because they were winning).

There was some rain in the night, but in the next morning sunshine greeted me already. My probably biggest wish (beside visiting the Eiffel tower) was to visit the Dutch windmills. There is a place only some 20 kilometers out of Amsterdam, where there are still a few working mills (and a small village preserved in an old style). The day was windy, so the mills were working :)

I was returning to Brussels in the evening, so I could not see more of Netherlands, but from a train I saw a very green, tidy country, with lots of small rivers or canals, and lot of cattle on the fields. Also a bit crowdy.

I will definitely return to this part of Europe to explore some more :)

P.S. During this visit I was thinking especially on Bart. I wonder how he will comment my view of the Netherlands. And others as well :)

Paris

My life dream came true yesterday - I visited Paris. Indeed just for a day, since I took the first morning fast train from Brussels and the last evening train back, but 14 hours I spent in Paris were enough to fall in love with this city. My biggest wish was to visit the Eiffel tower, and I spent more than 2 hours on the tower - since I had to visit all three floors and take hundreds of photos:)

I have also visited Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre (OK, just from outside, because you need a whole day for the museum), Notre Dame, Napoleon's grave, and towards the evening also the famous artists place Montmartre. I will come back again, but for the whole week:)

Moja življenjska želja se je izpolnila - obiskala sem Pariz. Res samo za en dan, vendar je bilo teh 14 ur dovolj, da sem se zaljubila v to mesto. Moja največja želja je bila obiskati Eifflov stolp, na katerem sem bila več kot 2 uri, da sem obiskala vse tri ploščadi, in naredila na stotine slik:)

Obiskala sem tudi Slavolok zmage, Louvre (samo od zunaj), Notre Dame, Napoleonov grob, zvečer pa še slavno umetniško četrt Montmrtre. Še se bom vrnila, vendar tokrat za cel teden:)

Brussels - part two

Today I did some sightseeing in the old town of Brussels. It is a beautiful city with a fantastic main square. However, in spite if its huge buildings, its probably most famous sight is the small (only 30 centimeters tall) statue of the little boy peeing. The statue is called simply Manneken pis (or The boy peeing). It is said that this statue was erected in glory of the locals - namely, in the middle of the harsh medeival battle, the general's son was peeing in the middle of the battleground. So this statue represents how brave the locals are.

Danes sem si ogledala staro mesto Bruslja. To je čudovito mesto s krasnim glavnim trgom. Vendar pa je kljub svojim velikim stavbam verjetno največja znamenitost majhen (samo 30 cm visok) kipec fantka, ki lula. Ta kipec simbolizira pogum domačinom. Po legendi naj bi se namreč sredi hude srednjeveške bitke generalov sin mirno polulal sredi bojišča.

Brugge

Today I was in Brugge, in the north of Belgium. The old town is protected by UNESCO, and it really looks beautiful. It is also surrounded by many canals. I took a typical picture - in the front bikes and motorcycles (many people are on two wheels here), and in the back the main square.

Danes sem bila v Bruggeju, na severu Belgije. Staro mesto je zaščiteno s strani UNESCA, in res izgleda lepo. Obdano je z mnogimi kanali. Na sliki je tipična podoba - spredaj kolesa in motorji (ki jih mnogo ljudi uporablja kot prevozno sredstvo), zadaj pa glavni trg.

500th anniversary of birth Primož Trubar

Ljubljana remembers Primož Trubar with pride and gratitude for many important reasons. Although he spent only a few years of his prolific life here, his contribution to the linguistic, religious and general cultural education of the Slovene people is greatly connected with Ljubljana as an urban centre that due to its geographic position, economic power and cultural development was able to become the main vehicle of the Reformation in Slovenia. In 1535 he was a fervent preacher of the new reformed faith in Ljubljana, but he was exiled to Trieste because of his ideas and activities. He returned to Ljubljana in 1542 when the conditions for Reformation activities slightly improved. He became a canon and a confidant and confessor of Bishop A. Kacianar. But soon, in 1548, he was forced to flee to Germany. Only two years later he published the first two Slovene books, Abecednik and Katekizem, which means that these epochal works must have been conceived while he lived in Ljubljana. His literary works and religious activities are so widely researched and written about that today it is reasonable to say that Primož Trubar established us as a nation when he called all the inhabitants of Carniola, Styria, Carinthia and the Littoral »Slovenes« for the first time. He was the first – Primus – to see beyond the narrow borders of the historical lands to the far limits of the Slovene language, which he believed to be the only possible vehicle of religious sentiment and the primary tool of linguistic education, as well as a foundation of conscious general cultural activities. It is no coincidence that in 1561 the people of Ljubljana victoriously accepted him in their midst and listened again to his sermons at the hospice church of St Elisabeth, which stood approximately in the location of the present-day western wing of the Kresija building. Ljubljana became the centre of his activities and it is in this context that we must understand not only his Slovenian Church Order of 1562, but also all his important works that were created later in German Protestant circles. Ljubljana recognized Trubar’s significance in the past as well, and erected one of the most beautiful monuments in Slovenia to him at the beginning of the Tivoli promenade. But his legacy continues to speak to us as vividly as in the past and in the year of the 500th anniversary of his birth once again draws our attention to great and demanding cultural projects worthy of his memory.
